You may remember back in March this year, we announced our donation of library resources and sponsorship of a reading trophy, for Highfields School in Matlock.
Since then, the lower school students have been taking part in a year-long reading challenge (starting September 2017) which aims to enhance their enjoyment of reading and helps them to discover new books and authors. We are pleased to now be able to report back with the wonderful news that some lucky winners have claimed their title and prize!
Trophy Time!
The winning Year 8 team was awarded with the ‘Twigg’s Trophy’ by Mr David Allen, Director of Twiggs, in assembly at Highfields School.
“Twigg’s support of the reading challenge this year has been fantastic,” said Lower School Librarian, Mrs Robinson. “Competing for a trophy made the contest much more exciting for the students, and thanks to funding from Twiggs we’ve been able to stock the library with some fantastic new books that have been extremely popular. National headlines might suggest that young people don’t read books for pleasure, but at Highfields this is absolutely not the case!”
To The Literary Victor, The Spoils
Since September 2017, students in Years 7 and 8 have read an amazing 3,260 books! Students in the two classes (one in Year 7 and one in Year 8) that had read the most books by the end of this summer term were rewarded with cakes, soft drinks and games in an afternoon tea party in the Library.

Poor reading and writing skills will hold you back at every stage of your life – and especially when it comes to finding employment.
