SERVICE

We offer free next working day delivery within Derbyshire from our Stores. Our fast, frequent delivery service for steel stock and fabricated steel has a small fixed charge of just £10 + VAT regardless of order size for deliveries within a 35-mile radius.

 Our 55 staff have more than 1,000 years’ combined experience and expertise in the trades and steel world - they understand your challenges and are always on hand to advise.

Our Proud HISTORY

1905

William Twigg founded the company in 1905, and made his name in the 1920s and 30s in recycling projects, purchasing and dismantling mine works and largescale buildings to recycle the component elements and machinery for profit.

1930s

The steelyard was established on the company’s current site on Bakewell Road in Matlock in the 1930s, overseen by engineer Dennis Upton. In 1934, Harry Allen joined the company and developed the Engineers’ Stores; Allen went on to marry Twigg’s only daughter Doris.

1958

William Twigg died in 1958, leaving Doris, Harry and Dennis to lead the business. David Allen, William’s grandson, and his wife Sheila are both currently Directors and David’s son-in-law, Richard Tarbatt, is Managing Director.

2005

The company celebrated its centenary in 2005 and donated £100,000 to local charities during the year. Across the three divisions of the business Twiggs is proud to continue supplying thousands of customers with steel stock, fabricated steel and engineering items from Matlock to Antarctica.
